General Anesthesia

At SouthPark Pediatric Dentistry, we don’t want your children to be among the thousands of patients who skip out on important dental appointments each year because of their fear of sitting in a dentist’s chair. Does your child have a difficult time when they visit the dentist? Let us help you and your child through the use of general anesthesia. Our staff can help you choose the most appropriate treatment for your child to help alleviate fear and anxiety, giving them a positive experience.

What is General Anesthesia?

General anesthesia is used when major surgery needs to be performed. We use this method of anesthesia both in-office and in a hospital setting if your child needs to be put into a sleep-like state during their treatment. Common dental procedures that require general anesthesia include wisdom tooth extraction, implant procedures, and even root canals if the case is severe. General anesthesia is a safe solution for anyone who requires surgery and needs extra support feeling relaxed during the process.

The Procedure

When general anesthesia is used, the dentist will work in collaboration with a certified anesthesiologist. This professional will be on the team throughout the procedure for the sole and specific purpose of administering and monitoring the anesthetic dosage. Their purpose is to administer just enough on a continual basis to keep your child comfortable. When general anesthesia is administered, your child sleeps through the entire procedure and has no memory of the appointment once awake.

Through the use of general anesthesia, you will be able to confidently get your child the dental care they need. If you live in the Charlotte, NC area, call our office today and get more information about how general anesthesia can change the whole dental experience for your child!
