What is Nitrous Oxide?
Perhaps the most common form of sedation dentistry is the use of nitrous oxide. This is a method that is commonly referred to as “laughing gas.” A special nasal mask will help your child to relax as they breathe in the nitrous oxide. This treatment provides a soothing and relaxing effect. The anxiety subsides and discomfort is avoided. The child is awake and alert throughout the procedure. One positive factor about nitrous oxide is that the gas dissipates the moment that the mask is removed and there are no lasting effects. The child will be able to resume their normal activities and schedule as soon as their procedure is complete.
